Terms of use

The ground rules for using this website. The most important one: reading this site or contacting us does not make us your appraiser, and it does not pause any deadline in your policy.

Effective

Using this site

Ocean Side Appraisals, LLC ("Ocean Side", "we", "us") runs oceansideappraisals.com. By using the site you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. The site is free to use.

Information, not advice

Everything on this site is general information about the insurance appraisal process. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for reading your own policy. Appraisal rules vary by policy and by state, and they change; a page may not yet reflect a recent change. Where your policy or the law says something different from this site, your policy and the law control.

Ocean Side is not a law firm and does not act as a public adjuster. Appraisers do not decide coverage, and an appraisal award does not decide whether a loss is covered. For a question about your legal rights, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.

The figures, estimates, and examples on this site illustrate how appraisal works. They are not predictions about your claim, and we do not promise any result.

Contacting us does not hire us

Sending the form, emailing, or calling us does not make us your appraiser and does not create any agreement or duty between us. We become your appraiser only when you and we both sign a written engagement agreement, and that agreement, not this website, sets the scope of the work and the fee. The fees described on this site are our standard fees.

Your deadlines keep running. Until an engagement agreement is signed, any deadline in your policy or the law keeps running: to demand appraisal, to name an appraiser, to file a proof of loss, or to file suit. Do not wait on a reply from us to meet one.

What you send us

Please send only information that is accurate and that you have the right to share. We handle what you send as our privacy policy describes.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • use the site for anything unlawful, or to send false information or pretend to be someone else;
  • try to get into parts of the site, or its systems, that are not meant for the public, or test or get around its security;
  • send automated or bulk submissions through the form, or copy the site with tools in a way that slows it down for others;
  • upload or send anything that contains malicious code.

We may block access to anyone who does.

Our content

The writing, drawings, illustrations, and design of this site, and the Ocean Side Appraisals name and logo, belong to Ocean Side and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You are welcome to read, print, and link to any page, and to quote short passages with credit for your own noncommercial use. Please ask before republishing or selling anything from the site.

Some things here belong to others. The photographs are public domain or used under Creative Commons licenses, and their creators are credited by name. Language quoted from insurance policy forms, statutes, regulations, and government documents belongs to its owners, and we quote it to explain it.

Links to other websites are provided for your convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they say or do.

No warranties

We work to keep this site accurate and available, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties about the site, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we do not promise that the site will always be available or free of errors.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Ocean Side and its owners and staff are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss that comes from relying on the general information on this site. Because the site is free, our total liability for anything arising from your use of it is limited to one hundred dollars.

These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, and some states do not allow some of them. They cover your use of this website only; any appraisal work we do for you is governed by its engagement agreement.

Changes and the rest

We may update these terms. When we do, we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and the new terms apply to use of the site after they are posted.

If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term right away, we have not given it up. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about using this website.
